Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Central Park of Culture and Recreation (4 Bolharska St) is a 26-hectare park in Lviv's Halych district, between Stryiska Street, Heroiv Square, Vitovskoho and Zarytskykh streets. It was created in 1951 on a former rubbish dump, modelled on Moscow's Gorky Park, with landscaping continuing to 1959; in the 19th century the Pełczyński pond (drained in 1921) and an ice rink stood before today's entrance. It has been a listed local monument of landscape art since 1984. Its axis is a central alley over 800 m long, entered through a colonnade. The park has the Green Theatre (about 6,000 seats), a Ferris wheel and fairground rides, and cafés; the 'Zhu-Zhu' petting zoo and the 'Mini Lviv' miniature park are on its grounds (both listed separately on our site). In summer it hosts large festivals, including Leopolis Jazz Fest. Entry to the park is free; rides are paid separately.
