An animal shelter in Briukhovychi near Lviv, founded in 1992 with support from IFAW — the first of its kind in Ukraine. It sits on about 0.8 hectares of forest and is run by the Lviv Animal Protection Society. Only dogs are kept on site (between 250 and 400 by various counts), while some 180 cats are fostered in the city. To adopt a dog you must come in person, meet the animal and sign an agreement; volunteers follow up afterwards. Help is welcome as donations, food, kennels and bedding, or volunteering — call ahead to arrange a visit.
