A museum in Boryslav's city park, recreating the pharmacy of Johann (Jan) Zeh — the pharmacist who, together with Ignacy Łukasiewicz, worked out a method of distilling crude oil in 1853 and produced the kerosene that fuelled the world's first kerosene lamp. Opened on 27 January 2021 and run by Boryslav's tourist information centre, it holds over a thousand items: kerosene lamps from different eras, early 20th-century Boryslav pharmacy vessels, pharmaceutical preparations, oils, documents, clocks and scales, many donated by local residents. The exposition covers not only pharmacy but also Boryslav's history of oil extraction, refining and the ozokerite trade. Outside stand working oil derricks with figures of Zeh and Robert Doms. Chemistry demonstrations are held for visitors.
Johann (Jan) Zeh (1817-1897) was a Galician pharmacist who worked at the Mikolasch pharmacy "Under the Golden Star" in Lviv and, with Ignacy Łukasiewicz, devised a method of distilling crude oil in 1853 — producing the kerosene that lit the world's first kerosene lamp. He later moved to the Boryslav oil region, where the museum named after him now stands.
