Lychakiv Cemetery is a state historical and cultural museum-reserve and one of the oldest necropolises in Europe. Founded in 1786, it covers about 42 hectares across 86 sections with more than 300,000 burials, over 2,000 family tombs and some 500 sculptures and reliefs — effectively an open-air sculpture museum. Ivan Franko, Solomiia Krushelnytska, Volodymyr Ivasiuk, Stefan Banach and Markiian Shashkevych are buried here, alongside Polish, Armenian and Austrian families, making the cemetery a cross-section of the city's history. Entry is through the main gate at 33 Mechnykova St. and is ticketed. The museum runs guided tours for individuals and for groups by prior arrangement, including an electric-cart option. Allow 1.5-2 hours for a self-guided visit.
Adult tickets cost 100 UAH, students and schoolchildren pay 80 UAH (rates in force since November 2024). Preschoolers, people with disabilities and war veterans enter free.
The museum-reserve is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00.
A guided tour costs 300 UAH for a group of up to 10 people and 400 UAH for larger groups, on top of entry tickets; an electric-cart tour (1-5 seats) costs 500 UAH.
