Stryi lies about 70 km from Lviv on the road to the Carpathians and works both as a half-day trip and as a stop on the way to the mountains. Its symbol is the Gothic church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, founded in the 15th century (traditionally dated 1425, rebuilt in the 17th and late 19th centuries, when the organ was installed); in 1995 it was proclaimed a sanctuary of Our Lady Patroness of Human Hopes, and in 2001 John Paul II blessed the icon of the Mother of God of Stryi. The centre has Rynok Square, the town hall and the Narodnyi Dim, a hub of Ukrainian civic life since the late 19th century. The Stryi Local History Museum 'Verkhovyna' (15 Olesnytskoho St) occupies an 1899 building. Stryi also has the memorial house-museum of the Bandera family at 20 Lvivska St, the parental home of Andrii Bandera's family (the main Stepan Bandera historical-memorial museum is a separate one, in Staryi Uhryniv, Ivano-Frankivsk region). Buses from Lviv take about 1 h 15 min; trains also run.
About 70 km: buses and minibuses run frequently and take roughly 1 hour 15 minutes; trains also serve Stryi on the Carpathian line.
Half a day (3–4 hours) covers the centre, the 15th-century church, the Narodnyi Dim and a museum. Many travellers stop here on the way to the mountains.
Stryi has the memorial house-museum of the Bandera family at 20 Lvivska St, the family's parental home. The main Stepan Bandera Historical and Memorial Museum, however, is in Staryi Uhryniv in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where he was born — two different museums.
