Roztochchia Nature Reserve

The first and only strict nature reserve in Lviv region, established on 5 October 1984 and covering 2,084.5 hectares in the Ukrainian Roztochchia ridge; it is administered by the Ukrainian National Forestry University. Beech, mixed and pine forests cover about 92% of its area, and a 384.81-hectare section has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians" since 2017. Over 1,000 plant species, 43 mammal species and 169 bird species have been recorded here. Important: as a strict nature reserve (zapovidnyk), the territory is NOT open for unaccompanied walk-in visits. Visits are only possible as organised excursions along eco-educational trails, accompanied by reserve staff and arranged in advance. The Museum of Nature in Ivano-Frankove, open since 1987, is the publicly accessible part and displays the flora and fauna of the region.
