Banana Farm is a family greenhouse run by the Trush family in the village of Lypnyky, about 10 km from Lviv. It grew out of an ordinary tomato greenhouse and now holds around 30 species of tropical plants: bananas, papaya, passion fruit, coffee trees, figs, kumquats and citrus. The tour lasts about an hour — the owners walk you through the trees and explain how exotics are grown and heated in the Lviv climate. It includes a tasting of the farm's craft products (jams for children, liqueurs for adults). Visits are by prior phone booking only. Winter is a good time to come, as that is when the bananas flower.
