BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr, near the village of Zhornyska (1 Vedmezhyi Krai St), about 25 km from Lviv, is not a zoo and not a petting zoo: it is a rehabilitation centre for brown bears run by the international organisation FOUR PAWS. More than twenty bears rescued from captivity — from circuses, roadside restaurants, private menageries and hunting — live out their lives here in large, near-natural forest enclosures with pools and dens. Visitors may not touch, feed or pose with the bears; that kind of exploitation is exactly what they were rescued from. Visits are guided only and must be booked in advance; a standard tour lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes, and extended routes and English-language tours are available. In winter the bears hibernate and may not be visible, so check before you come.
Adult 300 UAH (a guided tour of about 1 h 15 min), child 6-15: 200 UAH, child 3-6: a symbolic 1 UAH ticket, dog 50 UAH. English-language tours cost 500 UAH; extended and 'Morning coffee with the bears' programmes cost more.
