Olesko Castle is a museum-reserve and a branch of the Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery, set on a hill in the village of Olesko in Zolochiv district, about 70 km from Lviv. First mentioned in 1327, it combines a medieval defensive core with Renaissance and Baroque rebuilds. The future Polish king John III Sobieski was born here in 1629. The permanent display covers Halych-Volhynian icon painting of the 15th-18th centuries, Ukrainian portraiture, European painting and sculpture, furniture and everyday objects. A park and the former Capuchin monastery, which houses a collection of sacral sculpture, adjoin the castle. The ticket office closes at 17:30.
Adults 200 UAH, students 150 UAH, children and pensioners 100 UAH. Family tickets are 300-500 UAH. A guided tour for a group of up to 20 people costs 500-700 UAH, or 1000 UAH in a foreign language.
Wednesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; the ticket office closes at 17:30. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The castle is in Olesko village, about 70 km east of Lviv along the M06 highway, roughly a 90-minute drive. Regional buses towards Zolochiv or Brody also stop in Olesko.
