Pomoriany Castle in the town of Pomoriany, Zolochiv district, is what remains of a fortified residence founded in the early 16th century and rebuilt in the late 17th century at the expense of King John III Sobieski, who valued the stronghold highly. Two two-storey wings survive: the eastern one with its round corner tower, the oldest part of the complex, and the southern wing with an open gallery. After a fire in 1944 and Soviet-era use as a party office and a vocational school, the monument fell into serious disrepair and is now structurally unsafe. It is not a museum: there is no permanent exhibition, ticket office or opening schedule, and a visit means viewing the building from outside. A local history museum operates nearby, and volunteers and charitable initiatives are slowly working to save the castle.
