Tustan is a medieval rock fortress and customs post of the 11th-16th centuries, built into the cliffs above the village of Urych in the Skolivski Beskydy foothills, and today a State Historical and Cultural Reserve. The wooden fortress rose up to five storeys, anchored directly into the rock: the timber is long gone, but more than 3,500 carved beam sockets and grooves survive in the stone, and archaeologists used them to reconstruct how it looked. Tustan guarded the salt route from Drohobych to Western Europe; it appears in written sources from 1340, with the last mention in 1565. Visitors climb marked paths among the cliffs for wide views over the Carpathian foothills, and the reserve's museum displays excavated wooden structural elements, ceramics and metalwork. Open 10:00-18:00 from April to October and 9:30-17:00 in winter.
An adult ticket costs 200 UAH and a concession ticket 100 UAH. Family tickets are 400 UAH (one adult with children) or 500 UAH (two adults with children).
From April to October the reserve is open daily 10:00-18:00; from November to March it works 9:30-17:00.
