Lviv Beer Guide: Breweries, Beer Halls and the Beer Museum

Lviv is Ukraine's beer capital. The first "Lvivske" was brewed here back in 1715, the country's oldest operating brewery still works in the city, and alongside the classics a powerful craft scene has grown up. Here's everything a beer-loving traveller should taste and see — from the beer museum to terraces with their own breweries.

The "Lvivarnia" Beer Museum

Lvivarnia — the Beer Museum (vul. Kleparivska, 18) is a must for any beer tourist. The museum sits on the grounds of the historic Lviv Brewery (founded in 1715, the first industrial brewery in Ukraine), tells the story of brewing in the city and ends with a tasting. In the same beer cellars is the legendary Robert Doms hall, named after the 19th-century industrialist who expanded the brewery. Details are on the venue's page in the catalog.

A craft brewery in the centre: Pravda

Pravda Beer Theatre (pl. Rynok, 32) is Lviv's most famous craft brewery, right on the main square. It has its own production, dozens of styles, bold labels and a terrace overlooking the Town Hall — a great spot to try local craft in the very heart of the city. See its page in the places catalog.

For a proper dinner with beer, Lviv has plenty of atmospheric spots:

Kumpel (vul. Vynnychenka, 6) — Lviv's first restaurant-brewery, with its own beer and hearty food.
Lir Beer Hub (vul. Sichovykh Striltsiv, 15) — a pub with a big selection of craft on tap.

Beer + ribs = a Lviv classic

A distinctly Lviv tradition is beer with ribs. The «Rebernia» chain has several locations: under the Arsenal (vul. Pidvalna, 5), on Stryiska (vul. Stryiska, 202) and at FESTrepublic (vul. Staroznesenska, 24-26). Grilled ribs and a cold mug — a simple and very Lviv kind of evening.

What to order: local beer brands

Lvivske — the historic brand, brewed in Lviv since 1715; look for the "1715" premium line.
Pravda — craft from the brewery on Rynok Square, from pale ales to dark styles.
Robert Doms — a line connected to the historic brewery.

The main beer festival
