An active monastery of St. Nicholas run by the Basilian Fathers (Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church) in the village of Krekhiv, some 40-50 km north of Lviv. Founded in the early 17th century and encircled with defensive walls and towers in the 1660s, it looks more like a fortress than a quiet cloister. Closed by the Soviet authorities in 1949, it has been active again since 1990 and now also houses the Basilian novitiate. Its main shrine is a miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which draws thousands of pilgrims to the Krekhiv indulgence feast every August. The church and grounds are open to visitors around the services; the monastery does not publish fixed opening hours, so guided tours and stays at the pilgrim house are arranged by phone in advance.
