The Lviv Officers' House occupies the former People's House (Narodnyi Dim) at 22 Teatralna Street, one of the landmark buildings of the Ukrainian national movement in Galicia. Emperor Franz Joseph I laid its cornerstone in 1851; it was completed by 1864, funded by donations from the region's Ukrainians and designed by architect Wilhelm Schmidt in a Biedermeier style with historicist elements. Until 1939 the People's House ran as a cultural and educational institution with a theatre, library, museum and exhibition halls. Since 1939 the building has housed a military cultural institution, the Officers' House. Today it works mainly as a concert and theatre venue, with tickets sold through the usual ticketing platforms; the building also hosts a Kinopalats cinema and a range of clubs and dance studios.
