Mykhailo Hrushevsky State Memorial Museum

The Mykhailo Hrushevsky State Memorial Museum occupies the historian's own villa at 154 Ivana Franka Street, built in 1902. Hrushevsky lived and worked here during his Lviv period (in this house from 1902 to 1914), while writing his History of Ukraine-Rus and heading the Shevchenko Scientific Society. The institution became an independent state museum on 1 May 1998 and formally opened to visitors on 22 August 2000. The display occupies six halls and covers nearly all stages of Hrushevsky's scholarly and public career, with an emphasis on his Lviv years of 1894-1914; the collection holds over 29,000 items — furniture, photographs, documents and books. The museum runs guided tours, seminars and small literary and musical evenings.
