The Lviv Museum of the History of Religion is the only museum of its kind in Ukraine and one of few in the world. Founded in 1973 (initially as a museum of religion and atheism), it occupies the former Dominican monastery (14th-18th c.) on Muzeina Square 1, next to the Baroque church designed by Jan de Witte (today the Cathedral of the Holy Eucharist). Its holdings exceed 50,000 items. The permanent display covers ancient beliefs, Judaism, Christianity (Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Greek Catholicism, Protestantism), the Armenian Church, Islam and Buddhism, with highlights such as 16th-19th c. icons and the 1581 Ostroh Bible. A separate attraction is the guided tour of the monastery's undergrounds; organ concerts are held in the cathedral.
Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00; closed on Monday. The museum is at Muzeina Square 1, in the former Dominican monastery.
A full ticket (exhibition halls, undergrounds and the 'Those Who Saved the World' exhibition) costs 100 UAH; student 60 UAH; reduced 50 UAH. A separate guided tour of the undergrounds costs 100 UAH per person (60-70 UAH reduced).
