The Church of the Transfiguration is an active Ukrainian Greek Catholic church at 21 Krakivska Street, a few steps from Rynok Square. It was built to a design by architect Sylvester Havryshkevych on the site of the former Holy Trinity church of the Trinitarian order (1703–1731), whose plot was handed to the Greek Catholic community in 1849. On 29 October 1989, after 43 years underground, the church was returned to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic faithful — the first Greek Catholic church in Ukraine officially returned to its community. It is a monument of national importance and part of Lviv's historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The private museum «Ancient Lviv» occupies the vaults beneath the church complex.
