Stradch Hill in the village of Stradch (Yavoriv district, about 22-25 km from Lviv) is the main pilgrimage site of the Lviv Archeparchy of the UGCC, often called the "Ukrainian Jerusalem". The parish Church of the Dormition crowns the 359 m hill, and a Way of the Cross - installed in 1936 by Fr. Mykola Voiakovsky and granted the status of the Jerusalem Way of the Cross by the Pope - winds around its slopes. Cut into the steep northern slope is a princely-era cave monastery: over 270 m of passages, a 40 m entrance gallery holding an underground church, an 11th-century stone cross and a confessor's seat carved in the rock. The cave is a protected natural monument of local significance; there is no ticket office and access is free, but the passages are narrow and dark - bring a torch and sturdy shoes. More than 200,000 pilgrims come each year, most of them for the Stradch indulgence feast. The parish runs a pilgrim house.
