The Arsenal Museum is a department of the Lviv Historical Museum, housed in the City Arsenal at 5 Pidvalna Street. The defensive building was erected in 1574-1575 on the site of an armoury destroyed by fire in 1571; it stored and repaired weapons, held a cannon foundry and later served as a prison. Restoration began in 1973 and the museum opened on 18 May 1981. Its arms collection holds about 4,500 items drawn from Lviv museum collections of the 19th and early 20th centuries. On 15 April 2025 the museum reopened with a new display, 'The Defence Industry of Lviv (from the Middle Ages to Early Modern Times)', featuring over 200 objects: authentic 16th-18th century weapons, cannons, armour and historical documents.
