A large reservoir on the Western Bug river next to the town of Dobrotvir, about 60 km from Lviv. Built in 1959 and filled in 1961, it covers nearly 7 km², is 13 km long and up to 4 m deep. It serves as the cooling pond of the Dobrotvir thermal power plant: heated discharge keeps the bypass canal ice-free, which makes it a known winter fishing spot. Pike, perch, carp, crucian carp, bream and roach are caught here. Fishing is free of charge, but restrictions apply (see FAQ). Warning: this is a technical cooling reservoir with a hot-water discharge — the water blooms heavily in summer and discharge temperatures above 45 °C have caused fish die-offs. It is a fishing location only; swimming and beach recreation are not appropriate here.
Nothing. It is a public water body — amateur fishing is free and allowed around the clock.
No permit is needed for amateur rod fishing from the bank, but fishing inside the power plant's bypass canal is prohibited and fined. Nets and electric fishing gear are illegal. A spawning ban applies to reservoirs in Lviv region from 1 April to 10 June; Dobrotvir Reservoir is one of the listed stretches where bank fishing is still allowed during that period (from the Perekalky village boundary along the left bank down to Dobrotvir).
No. This is the cooling reservoir of the Dobrotvir thermal power plant, with heated discharge (reported above 45 °C) and heavy summer algal blooms. Treat it as a fishing location only.
Dobrotvir is about 60 km north-east of Lviv (roughly an hour by car via Kamianka-Buzka).
