The First Ukrainian Academic Theatre for Children and Youth is the country's oldest children's theatre: founded in March 1920 in Kharkiv as the "Theatre of the Fairy Tale", it settled in Lviv in 1944 after a tour. Today it is a repertory house serving two audiences — small children and teenagers — so folk-tale productions sit alongside "The Little Prince", "The Canterville Ghost" and Ukrainian literary classics. The theatre occupies a building at 11 Akademika Hnatiuka St, a few minutes' walk from Svobody Avenue. Performances are in Ukrainian and most carry an age recommendation.
