The Les Kurbas Academic Theatre was founded in 1988 by Volodymyr Kuchynskyi and a group of young actors, and was granted academic status in 2007. It is a chamber, experimental stage: the repertoire is built around text rather than crowd-pleasers — Lesya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, Beckett's "Waiting for Godot", Shakespeare, antiquity, plus contemporary works about the war and veterans. The company also functions as a theatre school, running a studio programme with Ivan Franko National University of Lviv since 2001. Its home at 3 Les Kurbas St is the former "Casino de Paris" variety theatre (1910), an Art Nouveau building with neo-Gothic details. Performances usually start at 18:00.
There is no single price list — the cost depends on the production. Current prices are shown on each performance's page at kurbas.lviv.ua or at the theatre box office.
Online at kurbas.lviv.ua, or at the box office at 3 Les Kurbas St, open on performance days from 16:00 to 18:00.
The repertoire is intellectual, director-driven theatre: Lesya Ukrainka's "The Forest Song", Franko adaptations, Beckett's "Waiting for Godot", and contemporary pieces about the war.
