Summer in Lviv: What to Do, Where to Go and Where to Swim

Summer is the best time for Lviv. The city drowns in greenery, terraces fill the squares, music plays in the parks, and on weekends it's easy to escape to lakes, waterfalls and castles nearby. Here's everything worth doing in Lviv in summer — from a morning coffee on a terrace to swimming and open-air festivals.

Parks and green viewpoints

In the heat, Lviv's parks come to the rescue — shady and mostly free:

• Stryiskyi Park (vul. Stryiska) — the city's best-known park and a landmark of landscape design, opened in 1894: a pond, a greenhouse and an alpine garden. Free entry.
• Khmelnytsky Culture Park (vul. Bolharska, 4; Mon-Sun: 09:00-21:00) — rides, a Ferris wheel and the Green Theatre; free park entry, rides paid separately.
• Znesinnia Park (administration — vul. Novoznesenska, 32) — a regional landscape park with trails, woods and meadows on the hillsides; free entry.
• High Castle (Castle Hill) — a park on the highest point in Lviv; free entry. The observation deck on top of the mound has been closed since 2022.
• Metropolitan's Gardens by St. George's Cathedral (pl. Sviatoho Yura, 5) — a historic terraced garden with a view of the city; seasonal, Mon-Sun: 14:00-18:00, entry is a 50 UAH charity donation. It hosts open-air concerts (ticketed separately).
• Horikhovyi Hai Park (between vul. Volodymyra Velykoho and vul. Kniahyni Olhy) — a public park of about 40 ha with the Vulka stream and a small lake; the former cinema building now houses the Lviv Film Center.
• Botanical Garden of Ivan Franko University (vul. Marka Cheremshyny, 44) — tours and seasonal flower shows. Open during the growing season: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, 10:00–18:00; entry 120 UAH, 160 UAH with the greenhouse complex.

Where to cool off in the heat

Right in the city and just outside it, there's plenty of water:

• AquaPark Beach («Pliazh») (vul. Kniahyni Olhy, 114; Mon-Sat 07:00-21:00, Sun 08:00-21:00) — an indoor water park with pools and slides, open year-round.
• «Try Stykhii» Recreation Complex (vul. Shchyretska, 36, Pivdennyi mall) — indoor pools and, in summer, a terrace with an outdoor pool (seasonal, 10:00-19:00).

Outside the city, resorts with open-air pools and lakes:

• SIRKA CAMP — beaches on the shore of Yavoriv Lake (Novyi Yar village, ~40 km).
• Tartak Resort — a complex by Vulky Lake (Berezhany village, Lviv district; access from vul. Pasichna or vul. Zelena, Lviv) with a beach and gazebos; ask the staff whether swimming is allowed.
• RUMBAMBAR at the Drevny Grad park-hotel (Hamaliivka, 7th km of the Kyiv–Lviv highway, ~11 km) — a summer aqua-complex: three heated pools (including a children's pool), a sunbathing area, a food court and a bar. Open in the warm season only.
• Emily Resort (Vynnyky) and Otaman Resort & Spa (Pasiky-Zubrytski) — complexes with pools and spa.

For a swimming lake near Lviv there's Lake Zadorozhnie ("the Lviv Baikal", Honiatychi village, ~45 km) — a former quarry with clear, deep water and several beaches. Lake Barvinok (Novyi Rozdil, ~60 km), on the other hand, is for forest walks, picnics and fishing: swimming there is prohibited. All resorts are in the recreation section.

Summer terraces, coffee and kniaipas

Lviv is rightly called Ukraine's coffee capital, and in summer terraces open up across the centre. Day trips into nature

If you have a day or two, it's worth heading beyond Lviv — most destinations are accessible in summer:

• Dovbush Rocks (Bubnyshche area, ~2 hrs, already in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast) — a sandstone rock maze in the forest and legends of the outlaw Dovbush.
• Tustan (Urych village) — a historical and cultural reserve on the site of a medieval cliff fortress.
• Kamianka Waterfall and the Skole Beskids — mountains, forests and the mountain Zhuravlyne (Dead) Lake.
• The "Golden Horseshoe" castles — Olesko, Pidhirtsi and Zolochiv castles on one route (all Wed-Sun, 10:00-18:00).
• «Medovyi Bliuz» (Lubiana village, ~30 km) — a campsite and demonstration apiary: beehive tours, gazebos and workshops.
• Dzherelo Park (Obroshyne village, ~15 km) — a private zoological-botanical park with a petting farm: raccoons, alpacas, deer; daily 10:00–19:00, entrance ticket 350 UAH.
• «Alpakio» Alpaca Farm (Dobrostany village, ~30 km) — a small private alpaca farm with an intimate format, next to a lake and a pine forest; you can stay in a separate cabin on the farm. Mon-Sun: 11:00-18:00, groups of more than 10 must book in advance (@alpakio.house).
